Special relativity has survived a century of scrutiny, countless textbooks, and the occasional suspicion that its founder might have understood it correctly.
This paper revisits Lorentz’s transformations, simultaneity, the twin paradox, the ladder paradox, and the train-and-lightning thought experiment, arguing that the mathematics is considerably less controversial than its interpretation. By distinguishing physical events from their frame-dependent coordinate labels, we propose a Lorentz-consistent reinterpretation that challenges conventional readings without having the audacity to discard the equations themselves. The central question is deceptively simple: how did Lorentz’s mathematics acquire an interpretation that apparently required Einstein to explain it better than Lorentz? The implications for spacetime diagrams and relativistic paradoxes are explored, in the hope that history itself may yet be transformed—and that Lorentz might finally receive the credit that Einstein’s shadow has so long denied him.
